Yesterday we watched the San Jose Sharks play the Las Vegas Knights at the Shark Tank. Unfortunately the Sharks lost, so the home ground atmosphere was a little down, but the game itself was really interesting, especially the parts where the guys body slammed each other against the glass. The strategy was a bit hard to follow; we couldn't quite get the hang of when a move was close and when it wasn't, and it doesn't help that they hit that puck pucking hard.
Today we drove to San Francisco, taking the long way around so that we could stop off, and drive over the Golden Gate Bridge, so pretty!
We dropped our car at the Lombard Motor Inn, then headed out for a long, very uphill walk towards the wharf area. Lombard Street was ridiculously steep, I wish I could have seen the inside of the houses on it, they must have some wicked designs to deal with the angles.
We saw the Stinking Rose on the way, Claire's favourite place!
The Market Place was amazing, so many artisan stores and cute restaurants.
We did a loop around then settled on Mariposa Gluten Free Baking Company for me (spinach and ricotta pastry), and Acme Bread for Andrew (green garlic sandwich) for lunch. After lunch we went back in and got a cheese bag from Cowgirl Creamery to have for dinner tonight, and Andrew also got a peanut curry ice cream (not a typo) from Humphry Slocombe; it was a really delicious and clever combination!
The long walk around the piers was lovely. I can't believe the seagulls are so massive, and I can't believe there were sea lions at Pier 39! After failing to find the flamingo at the Flamingo hotel in Vegas I didn't believe the sea lion signs, but there they were as promised in piles of sluggish glory.
We're now relaxing at the Lombard Motor Inn, trying to decide which of the cool local bars to visit, hopefully we find something very close, with 0 incline...
