We just arrived in San Antonio, and are going to have a couple of hectic days ahead especially since it's 1:45am now, but I'm not sleepy yet so maybe it's the perfect time to reflect on our time in L.A!
Our first day we enjoyed the awesome coffee at the Ace Hotel's Best Girl, and then had lunch at the Grand Central Market. I got the Slut from Eggslut, which was an egg on top of mash potato poached in a jar, and Andrew got a peanut butter, jelly, and marshmallow fluff sandwich from PBJ.LA.
We saw the funicular, grabbed another awesome coffee from Tilt cafe (I got the cloud latte, very nice but it was way too rich to finish!) and checked out the Bradbury Building which was super familiar, and we realised it's because it was a set in Blade Runner!
Drinks at Rooftop and dinner at Best Girl were both top notch, the Ace Hotel is really cool (despite the weird conversation we accidentally got into with some flamboyant Norwegians...).
We started off the next day by attempting to go for a run near Dodger's Stadium, but got kicked out of the parking lot since there was a marathon going on in that area. We found another cute little lake (Echo Park Lake) to run around, and saw some more squirrels.
We didn't realise we were in for a whole lot more exercise, the hike to Griffith Observatory from the free park-n-hike area was brutal! The Griffith Observatory was fantastic, especially the show in the main theatre which was narrated live by someone who did a fantastic job of making you forget it was live. The views of L.A. were awesome, the Hollywood sign is smaller than I thought it was going to be. I wish we had more time to spend here, we could have happily spent a whole day in the exhibits, even just watching the cloud chamber.
Lunch at Leo's taco truck seemed risky (first food place with a B we've seen), but the tacos were top notch.
We took the long way via Mullholand drive to the Getty, where we spent a couple of hours appreciating the art, but mostly taking in the amazing views and architecture.
After a quick (windy!) drink at the Rooftop, we headed out to Korea town to Beer Belly for another mind blowing meal. The fried chicken strips, duck fat fries, and deep fried twinkie were incredible.
Before heading back, Andrew managed to get me to brave the cold and walk to Mikkeller DTLA where he got an awesome beer that I managed to help him with about 2 small sips before giving up. It tasted like molten liquorice!
This morning we had a lazy start and did our final exploring of L.A. including another taco truck, Ricky's fish tacos (even better than Leo's), visiting a huge mall (Westfield Century, I bought a tiny container from the Container Store, what a magical place), driving through Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive.
Dinner was In-n-Out burger, then we dropped off the car and caught our flight to San Antonio. Andrew got stopped through customs again, and thought it was just his luck until he realised he had the pocked knife/bottle opener we'd bought in San Francisco in his hand luggage. Whoops to trying to bring a knife onto a US flight!
Ok feeling a bit more sleepy now...
