The most magical time of year! My pin collection just keeps getting bigger.
Bobby hadn't been since he was a kid, Kaylie loves the show, Brendan hadn't been for a while either, and I think they all had a good time. Highlights were watching the chicken washing, The Wingman never remembering me, Kaylie's giant "small" fairy floss, Brendan patting a few cows, me failing at whip cracking, the life-altering donkey situation (we will never be the same), and showing everyone fireworks glasses for the first time. We also of course squeezed in a few whiskey and gin tastings.
Andrew and I went on the Wednesday night just to watch the fireworks. I walked there (which only took an hour and a half) got some banana gelato then tried the Rocky Ridge Royal Show Lager (it's... a lager), and also squeezed in seeing the snakes (apparently you stay still, not stop around a tiger snake!) before meeting Andrew to get some more Wingman (still no idea who I am) and watch the motorbikes, monster trucks (devastated we didn't see it flip like on Monday), and the fireworks again. We decided to go on a couple of rides (the rollercoaster and the swings) to end another magical night.
On Friday I went in early before meeting Rain at lunchtime. I saw a really amazing police dog demonstration, where they showed some attack training both where the person was padded up (and the dog was free to bite), and where the dog was muzzled but the person had no protective gear (apparently this hurts much more than the other one). I wandered through Heritage Hall where I saw some old Caterpillar equipment (with no red stripe!), and saw the cow milking demonstration (much to Andrew's horror).
The cow milking was really quite interesting, apparently they give up to 40L a day, and the calves (which were fed after the milking demonstration) only need about 7L a day, and if the cows are sick or on antibiotics, they can't use the milk!
I met Rain at about lunch time, and after high priority doughnuts, we saw the chicken washing again and Rain even helped the blowdry stage. I thought it was really cute that they have to use purple shampoo (like for blonde hair) to keep the white chickens perfectly white. We saw Avril's winning leatherwork entry (which unfortunately was half covered by the winning label), and then headed to the animal nursery to meet our farmer friend.
I love this new tradition! Rain made me the cutest magnet of last year's memory, and I think we'll try make this a yearly shot with us and this very fashionable fella with his cool glass and hat collection.
We had another crack at whip cracking, and we both got it! It was so exciting, and once you had it, you got it every time. I still think maybe it was something to do with the weather, because last time I tried it was a complete failure and I just kept tying the end of the whip in a knot. Yeehaw!
