We spent a lovely afternoon in Tahiti (Papeete) exploring the markets, and got a couple of mangoes for breakfast. We had cocktails with an incredible view of the city and sunset at the Reeftop bar on top of our hotel (Kon Tiki), and dinner at the Roulottes (food trucks). Dinner was an incredible plate of poisson crud, seared tuna (chaud froid, which was my favourite) and chips n salad at Chez Dominique, then chicken rice from another place which we half ate, and kept half for breakfast. The next day was an early start to Auckland.
We only had one half day and a morning in Auckland, but we managed to pack heaps in. It’s just such a familiar and lovely city, we really felt at home, possibly helped by staying at the quirky but familiar Qt. After we checked in, we took an Uber to Mt Eden (not Mt Etna as I kept calling it!) and quickly checked out the 360 views and tempting-to-enter crater while the rain threatened to roll in (managed to avoid it!).
Next we headed to Garage Project and had a tasting paddle and a couple of midis. The highlights were the cute dog wandering around for pats, very fresh Fresh October, and the birria taco from the food truck outside.
Next we headed into Ponsonby to check out the cool bars and pubs. Jazz over beer and jalapeno poppers at Hopppers was really cool, the Manhattan and dirty martini at Deadshot were excellent, and dinner at Bedford Soda and Liqueur was delicious (especially the gold kiwi fruit soda).
The next morning we had a wander through the city alongside everyone commuting to work, got a coffee, then headed to the airport.
So sad to finish our awesome holiday, hoping we can ride this relaxation for a while!
