Whiskey and beer matched tasting on a Thursday night; what could possibly go wrong?
Last Thursday night Iva, Michael, Andrew and I went to a special event at the awesome Dutch Trading Co. to taste some inspired pairings of beers from Nail with whiskeys from Limeburners.
The four pairings, specially chosen by the very witty and entertaining Caitlin from Nail and Anthony from Limeburners, were either complimentary or contrasting. I can't say what my favourite paring was, but I can say what my favourite accidental pun of the night was; Iva almost missed out.... or Miss Stout on the second tasting. You heard it here first folks, best name for a limited-release stout ever!
The pairings were inspired and really brought out the best of each of the elements, making the tasting a very different experience than enjoying the beers or whiskey alone... which is what I might have said at the start of the night. The end of the night however was a bit less coherent and ended up with Andrew body slamming me on our driveway in an attempt to cure my coldness by carrying me to the door. My elbow has nearly stopped hurting, unlike Andrew's ego which might take quite a lot longer to heal especially with my teasing slowing the healing process (I love having a good accidental drop up my sleeve).
All in all, it was a wonderful night! I would definitely go again if DTC ever host a similar event, and now that I'm an official member of the RAS (Royal Agricultural Society) I will definitely be visiting both Nail and Limeburners at the Perth Royal Show (the best time of year, even better than Christmas). The only criticism I have is that the kitchen closed very early so we didn't manage to order dinner, although we managed to get two massive bowls of chickpeas (we ordered one, and another bowl came out as part of the included snacks for the night; I've never eaten so many chick peas in my life), but I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys beer, whisky, or making their life difficult on a busy Friday at work.
