Yesterday was an early start from Vienna to Graz. We woke up early, packed, grabbed a to-go breakfast from the hotel (they were kind enough to give us boxes to pack), and caught the train to Graz, where we picked up our hire car and drove to Thal, Arnold Schwarzenegger home town to check out the museum dedicated to him in his childhood home.
He is such an incredible man. I’m almost finished Total Recall, and he’s just had the most amazing life experiences. I just think the world of his attitude, and often find myself thinking, what would Arnie do (WWAD?), when facing a difficult situation. I can’t believe the obsession that started from loving Conan the Destroyer when I was a little girl (along with Aliens, my two favourite movies), would turn into a lifelong love of Arnie. The highlights were trying on the glasses from T2, seeing the replica sword from the Conan movies, and looking out the same windows that he would have looked out of when he was a little boy (although we can’t believe he wanted to leave the natural beauty of Graz).
We took a quick refresh stop on the way to St Wolfgang, to the beautiful Hotel Peter. We quickly checked out the accommodation and lakeside, then wandered back into town to get some beers so we could spend the afternoon by the lake.
Handstands in paradise!
Dinner was at Hotel Peter during golden hour, magical.
Today we drove to Strobl, another little town on lake Wolfgangsee, and spent most of the day at a beautiful private “beach” on the lake, hanging out on the pontoon, reading, and generally basking in paradise. I realised that I’ve never been somewhere where I’ve felt more comfortable in nature; it’s warm but not too hot, the lake water is fresh so you don’t feel salty, there’s no sand so you feel clean (although the rocks to hurt to walk on, but not too bad), and there’s no bugs so you can just relax on the grass. I love the beach, but I can see why a day on the lake rivals Perth’s beauty!
Can’t resist a pontoon handstand.
Just look at this paradise! We stayed until the last possible moment, since there was a storm coming in We just made it back to the car before it started pouring with rain! It was still 30 degrees though, and we were looking forward to having dinner on our balcony and enjoying the stormy cosy weather.
I think this is the most beautiful place I’ve ever done my nails haha (thought I’d take a moment to do a quick infill before dinner). Dinner on the balcony was so bloody cosy!
